    okay – if I want to show the bars of an audio output, I would export the audio to keyframes and then link it somehow to the vertical movement of solids or imported art so they move up and down as the audio gets loud and soft.

    Does anyone know how I would link the keyframes from audio to bars (using expressions perhaps) or if there is a better way?

    Sounds like you might want to apply the effect RENDER –> AUDIO WAVEFORM
    try changing the DISPLAY option to “DIGITAL”

    Also take a look at RENDER –> AUDIO SPECTRUM

    both these make a visual display of the audio on that track so make sure that layer has audio…
