    Marc

This also happens when you have a Comp with a very small resolution and you are viewing it with a Wrong Zoom Percentage.

I get whats happening now. When I select points on the solid layer I didn’t realise it was increasing the scale value opposed to cropping or expanding the actual layer size.

So I assume it is always best practice to make any solid layer the comp size and resize down from that resolution?

I made a solid the comp size and and down sized/scaled and still get those kind of transparent edges

If a layer is positioned so that its edge doesn’t exactly align with the boundaries of the pixel grid, then After Effects uses antialiasing along that edge. This makes animation appear smooth when a layer moves. If you don’t want this subpixel interpolation, then you can turn it off for a layer by switching it to Draft mode.

Much more detail is in After Effects Help, here:
“Layer image quality and subpixel positioning”
