I’m doing a simple 3D 90 degree turn of a graphic. Works find until I put a light on it to cast shadows. When I do that, half of the graphic disappears as it is turning, and doesn’t show up until it has reach full front. I’ve done this effect before, and never had this problem. Help???

If you’re casting shadows onto another layer – a Solid or background of some kind – are you sure the front layer is far enough in front of the back layer not to be passing THROUGH the back layer?

Are all your layers set to 3D with ‘accept lights’ and ‘cast shadows’ in the transform dialogue?

Hmm…that’s interesting. I guess I didn’t realize it could go through the back layer. It is in front of a solid – and since there are only the three layers (the solid, the graphic & the light) can it go any further in front? Thanks a lot for the response.

Thanks, Joseph. Yes, all of them are set to receive and cast shadows & light.

Move your solid further back in Z space, and adjust it’s scale if necessary to fill the frame. If your rotating object is anchored in its centre, your solid will need to be at least half the width of your object away. So if the rotating object is 400 pixels wide, the solid will need to be at least 200 pixels behind it so they won’t intersect.

Got it. Makes sense. I’ll give it a try – Thanks so much!
