graphic cards for video editing …
Posted by Nik Crosina on March 20, 2006 at 9:13 pmHi Guys,
Is there a graphic card that is particularly good for video editing? IO am sitting in particular about rendering previews faster than others, etc.
Thanks,
Nik C

March 21, 2006 at 1:40 amVideo (graphics) cards won’t help with rendering. For Premiere’s purpose, any reasonably powerful and recently produced card should work fine. (Personally, I’m favoring Nvidia these days, something in the 6000 series generally. Check sites like TomsHardware.com and SharkyExtreme.com for reviews on performance.) Other programs like After Effects and Photoshop are a bit pickier.

March 28, 2006 at 12:33 amOh, you mean a video capture card. Yes, Matrox makes a couple of cards that will speed up rendering when you use their built-in effects. But consider whether or not you really need such a card. They’re expensive, and Premiere can handle a resonable amount of effects for real-time playback on a fast computer. You may be better off putting the money into a faster overall computer than a specific card.
