I am thinking of upgrading my video card in my G5 Quad. Im running a GeForce 7800GT with 256 megsof video ram. If I upgrade to a Radeon 1900 will I see a noticeable improvement in Invigorator Pro? Are there any other cards I should consider that will work on the Quad?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Lou.

I’m sure other users can speak better about the performance gains from upgrading graphics cards,
but I personally wouldn’t expect too much of an improvement for the Invigorator.

Make sure you’re using the latest version (v4.1.0):

You may see gains if you’re using very complex geometry because a better card can usually
draw more polygons faster, but it won’t improve your rendering times if you’re using
the software renderer for your final output.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thanks.

Will I see a difference if I use the OpenGL renderer?
the GeForce card is over 2 years old now. I don’t know how much Invigorator relies on the card performance as it does on processor speed.

I’m not really complaining about the speed either. But its a fairly cheap upgrade and I’m wondering if it will add anything to AE and/or Invigorator.

Motion and Aperture will see some gains that will justify the cost. I’m just trying to gauge my expectations.

    Hi Lou.

Since you’d be upgrading for more than PA (especially in light of Motion),
    it’s a good idea.

PA OpenGL renders will benefit. And the next generation of Zaxwerks
code will benefit from a better card.

So I say go for it!

    matt,
You might be the wrong person to ask but it looks like the only choice I have for an upgrade is the Radeon x1900.

Any Idea if there are any others that will work on a G5 Quad?

    Thanks
    Lou ….
