AMD 5xxx series cards are certainly compatible. I used to have a 5850.

Look at the list of AMD cards on wikipedia. Choose a card that is an XT chip, pretty much everything else is not worth your time. Cards like 5700, 7900, 290x should work well and be stable. There is a line in the card versions where MC mp4 encoder does not function gpu anymore. But the Sony AVC encoder will work gpu with all.

Sony uses OpenCL which has better support on AMD cards so I would recommend any modern AMD card. I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 and it works great. The only thing it doesn’t work with is accelerating the MainConcept AVC encoder. You’d need to stick with the older HD 5870 for that. Any of the newer cards like the R9 290x or 280x are great GPU’s for Vegas Pro.
