“Grand Central Dispatch” & FCP?
Posted by Bob Roberts on August 24, 2009 at 4:48 pmCan anyone point to definitive information about Snow Leopard’s Grand Central Dispatch and it’s integration (or not) within the new Final Cut Studio?

August 24, 2009 at 5:37 pmNot until it comes out and we can see what it does. Any information about products from Apple that haven’t been released yet is guarded…like Fort Knox.

August 25, 2009 at 2:29 pmI dig what you’re saying, but what you’re saying is absolute crap.
Anything I know about Snow Leopard is from what I’ve read on the Apple website. What Apple decides to put on their own website is completely arbitrary. There is no logic in not being able to answer a question that Apple simply neglected to include in their massive advertising campaign.
I understand that the situation “is what it is,” but just pointing out that said situation is completely mindless.

From the new Pro Res White Paper (published by Apple)…
Today’s Mac notebook and desktop machines rely on multicore processing, and so
the speed of a fast editing decoder must scale up—meaning that decoding time per
frame should decrease—as the number of processing cores increases. Many industry
codec implementations “hit the wall” and do not realize further performance gains as
more processors are added, but Apple ProRes codecs continue to get faster as more
cores are added, as the following chart shows.A hint that we might be in for a lot of fun in the coming weeks.
Nothing about 64-bit but interesting all the same.Cheers
