  • Grading does not appear the same on two different sequences

Posted by Jean Tertrain on April 14, 2025 at 8:33 pm

    hello again,

please excuse me for the double posting, as this question is not related to the previous one, i hope i don’t do something unappreciated

here, the same “grading” does not appear the same on the same shot, but on another sequence, who have the same characteristics

i would like to obtain the same grading but not matter what i do, it is slightly bleached like that

sorry for the noob question again

thank you if you read me!

    kindly yours

    jean

Same shot and the same grading looking different means your timeline color management is not the same. Also we have the age old problem of what you are looking at and where. If you look at a rendered file on a computer the player and the codec can affect how it looks. It seems like you might be needed to work out how to actually compare the two without the numerous variables of codec render and playback. If they are all identical and the project and timeline settings are identical then there may be a group or timeline correction happening in one project that you need to match in the other project.

Thank you Michael. Effectively, the colorspace of the timeline had a slight difference.

One output color space was on Rec.709 A et the other one on Rec.709 (Scene).

So I put them both on Rec.709 (Scene) but the problem remains.

I am looking at the file within DV on the same monitor, but on two different sequence and the grading still does not appear the same. Could vertical resolution (one is a 2160×3840) affect the color ?

The aspect shouldn’t make any difference. Are the two timelines in the same project? If not check that the project settings are same. Check the project settings by clicking on the gear wheel bottom right. If that all matches up, then on the color page, check that you do not have the clip as part of a group clip which might have further adjustment or that there isn’t an adjustment done to the timeline.

Finally check there isn’t an adjustment layer with a grade above either clip.
