Gradient from start to finish on a stroke.
Hello, I have googled this question to death and cannot find an answer.
I want to be able to use the brush tool to make a spiral which is white and the start of the stroke (where i clicked) and black at the end (where I release) and a gradient applied uniformly in between. I am aware of the “apply gradient to stroke” function but that simply applies a gradient from left to right regardless of the input. (like my stroke is just masking out a gradient rectangle on a layer behind it.
I swear i remember there being a way to do this. I thought clicking “apply gradient along stroke” worked but it does not.
To reiterate, I want the gradient to begin where the stroke begins, and end where it ends.

Making the gradient circular will be very close.
If “close enough” is not adequate, you can make a custom stroke from an expanded blend from beginning color to end color. Since gradients and blends are not legal for brush strokes, you have to expand the blend to separate pieces of fill before creating the brush. Max 256 steps needed, less can work as well.
