Is there a way to make a custom, vector gradient effect in After effects, where I can have multiple colors, not just the 2 that the “ramp” effect comes with? It’s nice adding the gradient overlay style in photoshop, is there a similar way in After effects? I feel there should be. I know that I could just create something like that in Phosohop, but then once I bring it into AE, it will be rasterized and I want to be able to take advantage of a vector gradient that I can scale up and zoom in on without destroying the quality. There has to be a way native to AE in which this can be done, please tell me how!! Thanks!

There are two third party plug-ins I know of:

    Zaxwerks: The Works Vol 1
    Digital Anarchy: Gradient!

Hmmm…thanks for those, I will check them out. Seems to me, that more gradient control should be something native to After Effects, maybe I’ll reccommend it, but I would be surprised if I were the first to do so. Thanks for the plugins though, I appreciate it.

FYI, another technique is RE:Fill from us (revisionfx.com) which allows you to put color dots anywhere and make a full color frame from that

4-color Gradient does a decent job. If you set the vertical settings for each colour position to be identical then you can get something rather useable. Re:VisionFxs Re:Fill does a lot of other things too besides gradients. So that’s a good plugin to look at.

What I usually do is create a standard black to white grad with Ramp, and then apply Colorama. That lets you add lots of color points, and change the transitions from color to color and even the transparancy of each point…. very handy, and no 3rd party neccesary.

Very handy indeed, Austin. I had forgotten that one.

    Hi Austin
That’s another good option that you pointed out. Thanks for contributing to the COW.

    Cheers
