    Hi,

Im working on a packhot with a dark brown background and a black gradient (vignette) on the edges.
Im having huge banding problems with this, so I wonder if you have any tips on how to make this look smooth?
    I have tried 10bit – 32.

there are plugins like deband (though i think is only sold as part of boris’s bcc package) that can help.

a rather crude but still effect way is to add the noise effect. you can do this with an adjustment layer, or on a black or gray solid and use blending modes to transfer the noise to layers below. you can also apply noise to just the vignette layer and that often works.

Another trick which often works is a slight guassian blur on the background, in the range of .5 to 1, or whatever looks right to you. By the way, what is a packhot?

Thank you guys. I will try that. Packshot is the “product shot”, often the last seconds of a commercial.

    Thanks Sig –

I’m always curious to hear different terminology – my term for your packshot would be endslate.

Increasing the Value of Ramp Scatter up to 20 will reduce banding but add some noise on it. You can then apply remove Grain to reduce the noise.
