  • Graded at improper frame size, can I copy over grades?

Posted by David Powell on April 15, 2012 at 12:01 am

So I rendered a 720p movie to prores HQ that went to 1920×1080, didn’t realize I had done this t’ill after I finished grading and rendered out the final movie. This was a flat movie grade. I’m wondering is there a way I can bring in the proper size movie and copy the grades shot by shot? Or export a grade edl or sorts and bring it on top of the proper movie?

    Do I understand you correct?
    – You received a single QT file
    – Scene Cut or EDL to split at edit points

    ?

In theory, you should be able to just replace the file. Give the old one a new name and give the new 1080p file the old file name of the 720p file.

Resolve won’t know what happened. Go to Config set 1920×1080 as the resolution.

excellent, so I can put the highres file in under the first files name, open the project and re-render at 1920×1080. I’m hoping that will work. Thanks a bunch.

Yes, using the ColorTrace function you can copy the grades shot by shot. See manual for ‘ColorTrace’.

In THEORY, it should work, as long as the edit is exactly the same and the filename is the same.

The only big issue could be any shapes…. Aren’t those based on the timeline size that they were created in?

If he resizes the timeline from 720p to 1080p, it wouldn’t be a problem as far as I know. Shapes should resize accordingly.
