I’m trying to basically create a pixel wipe effects for some footage. Basically rotoscoping out a person and then having pixels move on top of them pulling the same color from the person so it looks like they are morphing into pixels.

I have a grid of pixels right now, but I’m wondering if I can apply the “colorama” effect to an adjustment layer to pull the colors from the rotoscoped image?

Can’t seem to find something that works… any ideas?

Have you looked at the Mosaic effect? That might provide what you need in one go.

Not sure if this is helpful, but there is a “Sample Image Expression” animation preset that will return a color based on a location and sample radius that you provide. You can then use the result to drive another effect. In theory, you could have a separate sampler for each pixel or something….
