So this may be kind of an intro-to-Resolve question, but I want some opinions-

My system is currently running Resolve 9 Lite with the Ateon 5770 that came with my Mac and the cheap BlackMagic DeckLink Studio video card. I’m getting to a place where I have to step up to the next level and will be investing in the full software soon. I was wondering what would be more helpful to my work, if I could only get one or the other right now–a new graphics card for GPU, or the Resolve-spec DeckLink HD Extreme 3D.

    Thanks!

    New GPU.

The GPU. A higher-end Decklink card will let you output more formats — which you probably don’t really need — but won’t contribute to Resolve performance at all.

Without question, the single most important part of your system for Resolve is GPU. As powerful and many as you can stuff in the box.

If you’re laying off to tape then the Decklink is very important, but if you’re working primarily file-based then it’s really just for display output, so not the most critical piece of hardware.
