GPU Acceleration Not Working with My ATI Radeon HD 6850, which Sony says IS Supported!?!
So ive been with Power Director 11 for a while and decided it was time to make the switch to Sony Vegas Pro 12. The only reason I was sticking with Power Director so long is because I was able to render a 30m video in about 25m in 720p with GPU acceleration on my ATI/AMD Radeon HD 6850. I have Sony Vegas Pro 12 now and I cannot seem to get the GPU acceleration to work! I have looked in Options> Preferences and I go to the Video tab, and when I go there and I expand the “GPU acceleration of Video Processing” drop down menu, It does not list my ATI Radeon HD 6850 Graphics card like it isnt even plugged into my motherboard! I know that it is however, because PowerDirector uses it Just fine! I have also checked under the “Render As” menu and in the render profiles, when I check to see if I can GPU accelerate, it says “No GPU availible”, which is a straight out lie. This is frustrating because It is a really good editor and I have spent many an hour trying to learn how to use it, just to realize I have to wait 4x as long on my renders because my CPU sucks (I am saving up for a new CPU, but until then I need the GPU acceleration to work!). I am running AMD Catalyst version 12.3 (which according to the Sony Vegas website is supported, as well as my Radeon HD 6850). I REALLY hope you guys can help me here. I have also tried to get it to work with the latest Catalyst Control center version, but it still does not work, so I downgraded to 12.3 because I like that version (Still Has the AMD Converter APP).
Here is what Sony says is supported:
“AMD/ATI
Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU. If using a FirePro GPU, FirePro unified driver 8.85 or later is required.”

In your Windows device manager, are any other display adapters listed along with your Radeon card? I’m thinking that quite possibly your motherboard and/or processor has integrated graphics and it wasn’t disabled in the BIOS. If this is the case you will have 2 graphics adapters listed in the device manager.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I looked under the Device Manager in Windows and there was the ATI Radeon HD 6850 and a Hamachi Display Driver (which I don’t know why is still there because I have removed Hamachi from my computer).
I also checked in my BIOS just in case, and the preferred Display adapter is set to my PCI-E (how the Radeon HD 6850 is plugged in to Motherboard). Any other ideas? I really want to get this figured out! Also I did take the liberty to install the ATI Avivo Codec Package, but to no avail, as there is still no option to enable GPU acceleration in Sony Vegas Pro 12.

I bet that the remote login display driver that is showing under Display Adapters is causing an issue. Wouldn’t surprise me that if you uninstalled that application that your Radeon card appears.

I removed the Other Display driver via right clicking and hitting uninstall, as I had previously uninstalled the program that installed the driver. The problem still persists however, I go into Sony Vegas and there is no Graphics card listed in the GPU drop-down menu. Any More insightful ideas?

Ok, just found something really interesting Dave, I downloaded the “GPU Caps Viewer” Tool and it says that my card has no OpenCL Support??
It should have OpenCL support, and I am almost certain that this is the problem! But how do I go about fixing it??
