    Hello Helpful People!

I am exporting an HD sequence in PPr CS5 as an MPEG-2 file with the Preset “HDTV 1080i 29.97 High Quality”.

The client’s specifications call for “Long GOP IBBP.”

    The default GOP setting is:

M Frames = 3 (number can be changed from 1-8
N Frames = 15 (number can be changed from 3-126)
“Closed GOP every 0” (0 can be changed to any other number).
There is an option to check “Automatic GOP Placement”.

There don’t seem to be any other options. Am I OK with the default setting?

As always, I am so grateful to you folks for your help.

Yes, those are fine settings, there are very few reasons to change them. What is your target that you’re exporting for?

    Thanks for your reply, Ryan!

This is for a commercial for local broadcast on Comcast cable.

One more question: Should I check the “automatic GOP placement” option?

    Thanks again!

I guess I’m a little confused why you’re rendering something out if it’s going to cable and not laying it off to tape?

In any event, though… auto GOP placement is fine.

    Hey Lori,
I saw your post about exporting from Premiere Pro for Comcast, I’m trying to do the same. Interesting to try and decipher all the spec’s… Did you finally get it successfully output? How did you modify the defaults for the MPEG2 HDTV 1080i 29.97 High Quality Format/Preset? I’m on CS5.
Thanks for any help on this!

    Hey There!

You know, I can’t remember exactly what I did, but I either left it on the default settings (see my original post) or clicked “automatic GOP.” In any case, Comcast took what we gave them and the spot ran just fine.

    Hope this helps!
