  • Good shuttle control unit?

I see the ads for Euphonix’ control unit, the dial unit to control forward and backward movement, scrubbing, etc. Does anyone have a good handle on a unit that would work with Vegas? The units I’d looked at online Mackie, etc. seem to be built for audio work. Or are they fine for video too?

I’ve read a few reviews of the Euphonix controllers for my FCP machine, but wasn’t blown away by what I’ve read.

Anyone using something like the Mackie for mainly video editing?

For a couple of hundred bucks I’m not likely to buy more than one.

Contour Designs ShuttlePRO v2 is the unit of choice. I wouldn’t edit without mine and Vegas even comes with profiles designed specifically for it so it is an “officially” supported device.

Thanks John. I ordered one today from OWC, whom I use for other hardware needs. Since it also works for FCP it will be a great addition for my editing bench, since I occasionally need to use both platforms.

I think you’ll really like it. Having the jog wheel opens up a whole way of working.

    John,

Just wondering if shuttlepro handles the scrub left/right facility in vegas. I have a bella keyboard with the job wheel, and you are correct – editing without one now seems alien. Unfortunately the bella does not handle scrubbing, which I believe is down to the way it is implemented in Vegas)..

    Thanks

Stewart, The outer wheel controls the playback scrubber so you can scrub extremely slowly or very fast with audio. It’s the same as grabbing the timeline scrubber in the lower left corner of the Vegas GUI with your mouse. The inner wheel advances the timeline cursor one frame at a time without audio. It is the same as pressing F3 and F9.

Would you have any idea how this is represented in terms of keyboard shortcuts. I could not find a keyboard shortcut that scrubs as if I am dragging the scrub slider. The nearest I could find was holding down ‘K’ and then using ‘J’ or ‘L’, but it is still not the same thing..

    Many thanks..

PS – the first show with the QT/Qlab combiantion was on Sunday – looked absolutely superb – thanks again for all the info on the QT stuff from the previous thread…

That’s because they are assigned to F17-F23 and Ctrl+F17-F23 which you probably don’t have on you keyboard but the Shuttle does have them.
