Hello! I’m trying to find a good format to work as proxy for AVCHD footage that will play really well on Premiere Pro CS6 on both Windows and OS X. Any ideas? Is there a sort of preferred codec for Premiere Pro, kind of like how well Final Cut works with ProRes and Avid with DNxHD?

    Thanks for your help!

One of Premiere’s recent claims to fame is the ability to edit smoothly with most professional formats, AVCHD in particular since that’s a fairly common format in the solid state world. However, in the real world many have found the need to transcode to an intermediate. On the paid side, Cineform is very popular. If you want to stay free, Avid DNxHD, is also a good choice, and the codec is a free download from their site.
