Just saw my first episode of good eats-great show, made me hungry! The “soda shoppe” episode, there was one shot of a scanned photo that zoomed into a of a man way in back sitting at a table. when scanning high reolution, i can never really achieve that kind of clarity without a moire pattern or an image that just doesn’t look good “Up close’
my question is, do you have an industrial scanner, or is there a better way to scan that i’m missing? ir’ve read alot of tutorials but never seem to get it. maybe you wrote one ,or endorse one:)Again great show, congrats

I didn’t do that episode as that was before I joined the team.

But we’re able to achieve that type of look here no problems with our standard Epson 3950 Scanner. If you need to zoom way in on one small section of the scan, you have to scan it at a very high resolution, like 1500dpi or higher. This creates a huge file which you can then zoom in on and still maintain clarity.

We do this type of thing all the time for our animations we’re I’ll scan in a background for a scene, but I’ll need to cut to a closeup. By scanning in at say 2400dpi, this allows me to do the zoom.

Thanks Walter- i was scanning in at 600 dpi, thinking anything higher was overkill. i’ll give it a shot.
