Hmmm…good question. I was a huge DBZ fan back then, and I have say, this cartoonish effect might be something interesting to create in AE.

First of all, the inside of the Kamehameha is always moving, like if there were thousands of waves of energy in it heading straight to the enemy. If you have Trapcode Particular (or you could even try something similar with the Fractal Noise effect) it would be a great idea to have “kind of” particles of waves going realy fast in the energy blow (the waves).

Second, for the kamehameha itself, I’d suggest you make your “Kamehameha” shape mask , then animate it a little, like it would scale down and up justtt a littleee so we could see interaction going on.

A big glow (Alpha Glow too), and the Trapcode Shine are essentials to complete this effect.

But again, from what angle do you want your “Kamehameha” to be? From a 3D angle, or just 2D flat?

Sorry for the broken english, kind of tired.

Haha, I too was a DBZ fan back in middle school…I recently started watching them again…reminiscing…laughing at my super-saiyan level of nerdiness…

But yeah, my main problem is the particles of flowing energy. I messed around with fractal noise and a radial blur. It looks okay, but not quite right. I only want it to be 2D…I think. I think if I could figure out 2D, 3D won’t be too bad. But thanks for the hints. I’ll have to get trapcode…

I messed around with Trapcode and Fractal Noise some more and this is what I’ve come up with:

It looks fine I guess. But there is no life about it. I want that kind of darker blue in the center to be more animated. Can I do that in Fractal Noise? Any tips?

Nevermind, I figured out how to animate Fractal Noise. How does this look?

I need to stop having conversations with myself…

    Lol…looks okay, I guess.

Althought it would have seem a lot more “powerful” with your kamehameha scaling up and down a little bit every 2 frames. Just a few tips.

I didn’t get to see the original show, but I like your effect, a lot.

If you want a little pulsing action like Justin suggested, Distort>CC Spherize, center centered on the ball, radius 90 with, wiggle(15,10) on that radius, gives a nice pulsing ball. Take this with a grain as tweaking others work (after they’ve done the hard part) is almost irresistable.

    Nice streaking.

Oh! Spherize is an excellent idea! Didn’t think of that… I was gonna make it pulsate, I just wanted to get the basic glow and energy kinda thing goin on. Thanks a lot though, thats awesome!

Now if you can just do a cool “super saiyan” power-up effect. 🙂
