Good Audio Recorders?

Now Im looking at the Juicedlink CX231. Any body every tried this with a Cannon t2i, 5d, or 7d?

Hi Raine,

You’ve asked a few big questions. Starting at the beginning, I would not suggest the Zoom H4n. There is a better option. The Tascam DR-100 is a better option because it allows you to control the gain of each of its two inputs independently.

Is using a separate digital audio recorder good enough? Usually it’s not enough. You’re going to need additional microphones to plug into the recorder. What kind of mics (and microphone accessories) you need depends on what kind of stuff you’re shooting.

Are the juicedLink CX series XLR adpaters good? Yes. But again, you’ll need external microphones and accessories.

Shooting with an external recorder and shooting with an XLR adapter are two pretty different workflows.

Im looking at getting the Tascam RD-100 and a Rode NTG-2. I was told by I few people its a great combination, and very versatile.

Now Im looking into mic/boom stands. I need a boom that can be on shoulders, and set upright. Any Suggestions? Thanks again

There has been talk about low levels with the NTG-2/H4n combo. You have to keep in mind that the H4n is marketed at musicians whose sound sources are as a rule much louder than conversational dialog, so the H4n is “biased” that way, and the NTG-2 has lower a output level than most mics.

With almost any DSLR it won’t matter what you plug into it unless you can defeat the AGC which substantially raises the noise floor, and even if you do manage to defeat the AGC the audio implementation on DSLRs is very substandard at best.
