Im using a Cinema light as a null for an emitter in AE. Im doing everything right, naming the light “Emitter”, turning “no diffuse” and “no specular” on etc. Render with an AE project file. Import that project, cool everything is there. Make my new solid, add trapcode, change the emitter to “Light” VIOLA! nothing WTH, I’ve done this a dozen times no problems. In fact I just did one test scene and it worked. Tried the same scene again and it did not. Man Im going nucking futs because Ive done this numerous times with no problems. Anyone ever run into this? or a surefire way of doing it? ahhhhhhhhhh

But the light did make it to AE, yes? Is it moving exactly how it should? If so, then there is probably something set wrong in particular.

I wasn’t aware that name convention had anything to do with getting lights to transfer to AE. It is my understanding you can name them anything and they will still be a light in AE.

You do need a name convention when importing .ma into AE though. For example to make a locator from Maya appear as a null in AE it should be named “null_NAMEHERE”.

Yeah everything moves probably over to AE from cinema. The light as an emitter is there. You’re right it doesn’t matter what you name it, you can change the name recognition in the PARTICULAR options. I’be tried a couple animation test like a light revolving around a sphere and can get it to work off and on. Its just wierd because Ive never had this problem. Its something with the light from Cinema to AE. Turning the layer light layer(emitter) on, blacks everything out in the AE comp. My guess is because it is a light layer and it is tring to effect the layes in AE which are swithed on to 3D. Im gonna try playing with the AE material settings for the objects and see if I can get it to work it other than that Im just gonna fake it. Any ideas are much appreciated. Its such a damn cool feature I hate it not working properly. Yep.

When you turn on just one light in AE everything goes black because similar to the auto light in C4D, the 100% ambiance turns off. Go to your to your AE project and add an Ambient light at 100%.

I’d also post this in AE cow since I think that’s where the problem is.
