    Hey guys,

I’ve been reading up on some threads about going from day to night but still haven’t been able to pull it off with this problem shot I have.

I have this whole scene that I convert from day to night and haven’t had a single problem with it… EXCEPT for this close up shot.

    Here is the image:

I’ve tried everything I can think of and still can’t seem to think of a way to make it look like night time without crushing the blacks or dimming stuff down to a point where I can’t see anything.

The final look will be Sin-City-esk, so I’m not too worried about the colors…

has anybody got any suggestions on how to make this look like it was shot at night?

I know a plugin that do it, I’m not sure is the result is what you want.
I applied it to you picture, but I don’t know how to upload it, can you teach me that? or send me some e-mail so I can send it to you.

First I applied shadow/highlight (to lighten it so we can se the man inside the car) then, I applied the plugin (DFT 55mm) “day for night”. In my opinion, it kind of good.

There’s alot of movement, rotoscoping it isn’t really that great of an option

No, just add some shadow/highlight to the scene to make the man more visible, but maybe roto is a good solution to.

If I do not apply the shadow/highlight, the plugin Day for night makes the scene too dark, shadow/hightlight applied before it, solves the problem.

Have you seen the samples I sent you?

its geometry though, the rotoprocess wouldn’t be all that bad.
does the character open the window or anything?
