I know this has been an issue for many, or at least those of us who own a HV20.
I have tried all of your ideas that people say “hey it worked” nontheless I come here seeking a deeper solution.

iMac 24inch, Core2Duo FCP Studio2 and I am daisy changing, always have and its always worked, I have a Firewire800 no 400 so I dont have a cord that goes to my Cam into FW800.

Here is what happens I get the “Cant find your capture device” message. I have tried every preset under the pulldown claw. Everyone says use the Apple Intermediate codec, yes this works but then after a bit the capture image freezes and the whole thing locks up, mind you the camera is still working, just nothing is being captured by the computer.

    YES -I have dumped presets
YES -I have shut down restarted
(did I mention it works with iMovie just fine? and the apple intermediate codec as I mentioned)
YES -I have tried different fire wire cables
YES -The camera is set to HDV and not AUTO

So, if anyone has a solution other then the simple things like shutting down, dump presents, flicking a switch, please let me know 😀

    Much appreciated.

Try just connecting the camera to your computer and capture 1 minute to your internal drive. If it works, then it’s Canon’s famous “I don’t like to be daisy chained” phenom.

Hi thank you for the reply, you may have missed the part where I listed that I have always daisy chained it, I had it once through 2 hard drives and it worked. Also, if the daisy chain was the issue why does iMovie capture?

Canon’s firewire protocol. Doesn’t allow enough throughput. You are limited on the iMac. Mac Book Pro with Express 34 slot and Mac Pro Offer more port expansion options.

What do you suggest? are there any FW800 to mini cables on the market?
