Going back and forth from CS2 to CS3 files
Posted by Taneil Adams on April 6, 2008 at 10:52 pmI did projects in CS3 (friend) but can’t import them into my CS2. Why is this?

April 7, 2008 at 4:31 amThere are a number of reasons for it but first that comes on my mind: building your project you used some new futures that CS3 supports and CS2 doesn’t or used plug-ins installed on your friend’s copy of AE that you don’t have, but in this case you should get warning message on opening your project. Did you get any message? What it says?
Another two considerations may be footage that linked to your project and cross-platform incompatibility for some file types between Windows and MAC. I recommend you to check an article in CS3 Help called “Cross-platform project considerations” and make sure you followed all the rules.
Hope it helps. -

April 7, 2008 at 6:17 amAfter Effects projects are not backward compatible. You can import AE7 projects into CS3, and it will prompt you to save it as a new project file.
You cannot, and never have been able to, import projects created in a later version of After Effects into previous versions. That’s why you get the “Time to Upgrade” message when you try to open a CS3 project into Version 7.
Best of luck,
