  • “Go to Time” command change?!?!?

Hello. I posted this question in the general AE section, to no avail…

Is anyone else furious with Adobe for changing the time-honored “Command-G” for “go to time, with the absurd “option-shift-j”? What in the world would make them do this? You can barely toggle this crucial command with one hand now!

So…is there any way to customize such a thing? I did notice that “Command-G” doesn’t seem to do anything now.

    Yes, I’m option-shift-baffled too…

You can always edit the after effects shortcuts file, it’s a preference file in txt format.

Wow. That would be great. Any idea where to find that in the prefs, and how to properly change such without hosing the entire program???

    Thanks!

on Mac you can find it at:

    yourusername/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/8.0/Adobe After Effects 8.0 Shortcuts

I don’t know where it is located on Windows, but it probably has the same name, so you could search for it if you have a Winbox

this is a normal text-file that’s designed to be altered in a texteditor.

search for GoToTime and you will find:
    “GoToTime” = “(Option+Shift+J)”

The syntax for changing it is pretty obvious.

    Incidentally Cmd+G is now:
    “Group” = “(Cmd+G)”

It turns out that’s a new Group command that has to do with the new CS3 Shapes.

If all of your keyboard shortcuts go wonky, just trash that file and a new one will be created with the defaults.

Sweet! Thanks! I’ll give that a shot.
