Go to Next Edit not working
Hi,
I’m just testing the waters of Premiere Pro – coming from FCP. I love the promise of Premiere, the way it’s laid out like AE and how things are just logical… so far. Looking forward to learning more about it.
I’ve come across a weird quirk though: when I use the Up/Down arrows to “Go to Next/Last Edit” instead of going to the next or last edit I get a ‘scroll along the timeline’ behavior. My playhead isn’t jumping to the next (or last) cut point, in fact it’s remaining in exactly the same spot and my view inside the Sequence window ‘moves along the timeline’.
Strange, and annoying, because Go to Next/Last Edit is pretty handy for me.
I’ve double-checked the Keyboard mapping and even tried to over-ride it by manually mapping in the keys but the behavior remains.
Could this have something to do with Premiere being on a MacBook Pro laptop? I know that in FCP some of my keyboard commands were screwed up because the laptop had allocated them to ‘laptop stuff’ instead of ‘FCP stuff’.
Would be great if anyone had a solution. Thanks kindly,

The jump to next previous edit is a different short cut, page up and page down.
It is then dictated by the active tracks too. It will only jump to activate track edit points. You can see an active track is lighter colour.

I still couldn’t get it to work, however, as my laptop doesn’t have Page Up and Page Down only the arrow keys (or so I thought) .
And, for some reason, mapping the up/down commands to the arrow keys wouldn’t work.
In the end, I figured I’ll just make up some other key combination and see if it applies. That’s when I accidentally discovered the fn key on the laptop!
If you press that it gives you alternative options for keys not present on the laptop. Low and behold if you hold down the fn key with the up/down arrow keys you get “Page Up”/”Page Down”!!!

PS – This may be obvious to a lot of people but I’ve had Mac laptops for years now and never knew what that fn key did. Hopefully, this helps someone else out similarly oblivious to me 🙂

Yup, the function key is the missing link.
FYI: In CS5 and CS5.5 there is a FCP 7 keyboard layout in the Keyboard shortcuts dialog drop down menu. The Up/Down arrow keys are mapped the way you’d expect them. Don’t forget to use that function key! 😉

ive set my keyboard short cut for Go To Next Edit to Down Arrow and have the track selected but its still not working. any suggestions?
