Glowing Superhero Eyes – Is this possible?
Hi there. I’m directing a short film about a superhero with a set of goggles that light up bright green (much like Spawn’s eyes). I’ve been killing myself over how to make this effect work, and I’ve ruled out most forms of LED lighting. There’s just not enough time to put this together because I’m shooting March 21st.
However, I thought about maybe just putting bright green pieces of paper over the ovals of the goggles and adding the glow in post. I imagine it would be similar to the way people make lightsaber blades in AfterEffects.
Would this work?
Better yet, would anyone be interested in taking on the project? I have no AE experience and would give full credit (and maybe even some compensation). The film is less than five minutes long and only requires a handful of shots where the eyes light up. I’ll provide the script to anyone who would like to help…assuming this would work.

that teaches how to track the face, and cause an effect to the face. the principle is exactly the same, just a smaller effect over your subjects eyes.
after you track the eyes it would be a matter of creating a layer that followed the path the size you wanted it to be and then put a few effects on it to get the desired glow effect.
i think you would also want to somehow cause the area around the subjects eyes to reflect the light. that i am not sure of how i would acomplish, but i think it would be a matter of having a second layer of the footage that i would cause a glow effect to around the eyes area.
if your subject comes close to objects that should also reflect the glow then there is a question of how intense the eye glow should be.
i know it can be done, and i am sure there is someone here who could get it done. unfortuneately i am still learning myself.
what kind of deadline are you on? i know you said that you are filming on the 21st, but after that when does it need to be finished?

Any ideas on where to find chroma green material to place over the lenses on the goggles?

Yeah this could be easily done, there are a couple of ways to do this. green paper over the goggles would work although fading between them glowing on and off would be impossible. the other option would be to rotoscope the goggles. Like the lightsabers in star wars. its a very time consuming procedure as its basically animating over every frame of video but you can get some really nice effects with it.
I’d be happy to do the work for you as I’m currently freelance.

Whatever costs there are come out of the student director’s pocket, and I’ve only really set enough aside for some costume pieces and craft services for my crew/cast.
