  • Glowing 3D stroke shape….

Posted by Justin Crowell on May 24, 2014 at 9:54 pm

    Hi all,
I’ve been asked to create a look similar to this:

I had a 2D logo and some text that I’d like to extrude in this fashion. It has a sort of 3D glowing trails look to it, too.

Here is the video it comes from. It hits after 1:30.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

There are a couple of things going on there but I’ll try to get you started.

I would use an index based expression. Also, make sure all of your logos have the appropriate stroke and alpha channels set up.

Okay, so start with one piece, in this case, lets say the abc logo. Add it to the comp and make it 3d. Add this expression to the position property:

    [value[0],value[1],index]

Add a null to the comp at the bottom of the layer stack and it make it 3d. Parent the logo to the null. Duplicate the logo. Use the fill effect (or whatever effect you want) to change the color to the color of the stroke you want. Add this expression to the scale property of the duplicated logo:

    [value+index,value+index]

Duplicate that layer a bunch of times. Now rotate the null and position it where you want.

This might not be the best way, but it should get you going.

Hey George–sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner! That was a great suggestion, and I ended up using it to some degree. Thanks!!

Ha, forgot all about this. Looks like I steered you wrong too – scale should have been [value-index,value-index] – whoops, sorry 🙂
