Glow Plug In
Posted by Mike Moon on July 23, 2009 at 8:29 pmHello everyone,
I’m looking for this glow plugin that I’ve used before but I can’t remember the name and can’t find it at all through searches. I have radium glow but this particular plug in had a nice softer glow touch. I know that you can duplicate a layer put some blur and screen overlay but this plug in just looked nicer than that. Can anyone tell me if you know of a glow plug in that I may be thinking of? Thanks

July 23, 2009 at 9:56 pmI assume you don’t mean Effect>Stylize>Glow.
And, from your description I don’t think you mean Starglow.
Either one can be used in a very soft and subtle manner though.– The Great Szalam

July 23, 2009 at 11:59 pmYes its not starglow or glow. It’s a 3rd party plugin that has the effect that you would get from gaussian screen overlay but better. I just can’t for the life of me remember that plug-in cuz I wants it!

July 25, 2009 at 10:36 amThis was quite a few years ago now but a company called VizFX use to make a set of AE plugins that included several types of soft glows, but I don’t think they’re around anymore and their old plugins aren’t compatible with current AE versions. With that sai, I’ve found that if I tweak the settings of either AE’s standard glow or Radium Glow long enough, I can get just about any kind of glow I want out of them.

July 28, 2009 at 5:29 pmI want to say that it was Radium Glow the whole time but plug in i’ve used, gave me the effect I wanted instantly without having to adjust a whole lot. I don’t know if anyone can think of a plug in let me know otherwise I’ll just make due. Thanks for everyone’s input

July 30, 2009 at 1:42 amCorrection to my previous post … the name of the company I was thinking of is Intergraph and the plugin set was called VizFX (they’re still in the software business, but haven’t made AE plugins in years).
Radium Glow is also a good plugin if its worth the money to you. I’m pretty familiar with almost all AE plugins ever made and can’t think of any other third-party plugins that are specifically for glows, although there are some intended for other things, but can do glows as a by-product (i.e., Trapcode Shine, etc.)

To your original question, whether it be via the native AE glow or a third-party plugin you can rely on being around for a while (i.e. Radium Glow, which I have and like), I’d suggest spending some time generating glows that meet your general needs/preferences and saving them as presets.
