  • Globe open up to flat earth map ?

Posted by Eran Solomon on September 23, 2005 at 4:31 pm

    Hallo all ,
Im still trying to do this , but id like to hear some advice/tips on how to do it properly.

I have a 3d rotating on its axis earth animation , and an image of a flat globe map.
I am trying to make the image of the flat globe map open up from the 3d round earth animation.. so I have to distort the image somehow to a round form.. any ideas?

    Thanks in advance !

Try Conoa 3D. There sphere allows you to unwrap the surface. It’s a commercial plugin, though.

You might try the cylinder plugin. It is one of the Cycore effects that comes with AE 6.5.

u need to use only that earth map to get this…

    do one thing

import the map into ae .. apply fe sphere or any sphere plugin..

adjust the radius so that it first appears as a sphere and gradually reduce the radius so tat it bcomes flat….

    Hey dude ,
I got Conoa Powerpak , but I cant seem to find the wrap option in any of the spheres. I can only use wrap with the cylinder and thats no good for me.
any idea on what to do ?

    thanks

You could try creating a comp with a looped earthmap sliding left to right. Then create a new comp and drag the earthloop in. Use both sphere and bezier distort (wrap the corners back to a round shape) to get a “sphere-like” look that can unwrap nice. Add a light to the scene to get 3D depth. Let me know how it works.
