    Hello,

I have just set up a net render network in our office. I have been working with scenes using GI and have noticed there is a net render setting in the GI animation mode. How does this work? Does it speed up rendering times? I have been reading online about saving out a IR cache file and uploading it to the server. Can’t quite figure out how to accomplish this. Any ideas?

Saving the Irradiance Cache you’d think would work. My understanding is that if you render your GI pre-pass on a single machine, then send that file to the server, you should be able to render via the network.

However, I’m having several problems with this myself. First- I have to send the GI prepass files in the Illum folder manually. “Save Project” does not transfer my GI pre-pass to the server automatically. Second- After I send the GI pre-pass to the server, Net-render only renders to a single computer (the server). It doesn’t distribute the GI pre-pass to all of the other computers on the server.

If I figure this out, I’ll let you know. In the meantime… theoretically, this should work. Also, my understanding is that it doesn’t matter what GI Mode you are in. I don’t believe it needs to be on IR + QMC (Net Render) in order to render GI on the server.

    Hope this helps ya!
