Certainly a very common type of project is where you have cuts from many different interviews that were shot in different locations. I’ve become quite adept at removing ambient noise from A/C and such with Audition’s Noise Reduction Process, but was wondering if there was a better workflow than the one we use. Generally we place the clips’ audio from a single person’s interview on their own track. After the project is edited visually, I save each track out as a WAV to put into Audition for noise reduction. I do this even if all of the interviews were shot in the same room. I’ve found that it’s dangerous to use one person’s noise print onto another person’s noise reduction process, hence why I separate the audio to different tracks. I then save the cleaned audio back to the same WAV file, and place it on a track adjacent to the original audio’s track, also muting the original.

I’d love to hear other workflows in use. Something tells me that mine is a bit convoluted.

I use the same process. Regardless of other workflow issues, you’ll be limited to using a noise print per microphone. A noise print is just that, a print. Each microphone, even of the same model will have different variations in frequency response, gain level, and distance/direction from noise source.

I’m not sure if there is an easier way… it’s just a little brute work.
