  • Glitching when observing HD-SDI through 1200A deck

Got my HVX200 yesterday and trying various permuatations in connections.

Camera running 24P (not native) through firewire to 1200A deck; line 600 in menu set to 1398 input. Deck records and plays back perfectly, but when in e-to-e mode picture glitches every three-four seconds!

This is rather disturbing, because client can’t help but be concerned that glitch is going to tape, even though it isn’t and an otherwise convenient method of A-to-D (analog HD to HD-SDI) conversion doesn’t work.

The question is why not? I’ve queried Panasonic, waiting for reply.

This sounds like the problem when viewing firewire out of FCP into a 1200A and i bet the same principals apply here.

There’s something in the 1200A manual that mentions viewing material when firewire is the input. It has a funny way of saying it like, the picture is “disturbed in the vertical direction”. I can’t remember what page it’s on, but this used to come up a lot when people thought that a firewire cable and a 1200A was all they needed to monitor HD out FCP. I could probably look it up if you need the reference.
