  • Glitches in Video when adding Transitions

Posted by Geraldine Heaney on January 19, 2009 at 1:05 pm

    Hello,

When I add any transition to my project I get Glitches in the video before and after the transition.
I’ve never had this problem on any other project.
I’ve got rid of some old projects to free up some space on the computer but that doesn’t seem to have helped.
How can i get rid of these glitches?

    Thanks

I want to say that I have seen this before. I think a buddy of mine had this issue and resolved it. I’ll send him this link and see if I can get him to check out this post.

What exactly “glitches” with the video? Is it a stutter in the video at the transition or is it a luminance shift?

“Glitch” is difficult to pin down without a finer description, but here is how I fix one kind of glitch at the head and tail of a transition when editing material that has various shots in one clip.

Depending on how a transition is placed, some the frames might overlap an adjacent shot on the same clip. To see if this is so you can hit the “S” key for your Slip / Slide tool and then hold down the left mouse button on each of the clips butting against the transition. Both the head and tail frames displayed in the Canvas should be from the same shot. If not that is your most likely your glitch. Adjust accordingly.

    good luck

The Glitches are just in Playback I think. It looks like the a few frames repeat but if i look through it frame by frame there is no repetition.

It’s making it impossible to edit as i can’t watch things back.

It also makes it look like the audio is out of sync when i don’t think it actually is.

Sorry if this isn’t very clear, i’ve been searching forums to see if anyone else is having this problem but nothing so far, thanks!

    Final thoughts,
    1. If you have rendered effects on the clips that are butted against the transition, try un-rendering them, either by un-clicking the effect and then clicking it back on. Then Re-render it with the transition. See if that fixed the problem.

    2. Instead of using a transition on that troublesome clip try using nodes instead. In the bin, right click on the sequence and click on “Sequence Settings”, then click on the “Timeline Options” tab. Turn on Show Keyframe Overlays.

On your timeline you should see lines appear at the tops of each video clip. Move one of the problem clips up to layer V2. Extend, drag, that clips head and tail ends about 1 second over the clip below it. Type P on the keyboard to bring up your pen tool. Click on the black line as close to the edge of the clip on V2. Then click on it again about 1 second in or less. Pull down to zero the node that is closest to the edge of the clip (this should be the first one you made). Now you should have a transition from V1 to V2. What you have done is change the Opacity of the clip on V2 from 0 to 100 at the beginning and end revealing the clip underneath on V1. This is a bit, if not very tedious way of creating a transition, but it has helped me a few times in the past

    good luck,

    Victor

I’ve placed the Transition onto the clips and then rendered them but in playback it still jumps.

The other way might have to be what i use. Only trouble is it’s not just 1 problem clip it’s all of them and it happens when i use transitions on text too, I guess i could use the same idea to fade out the text too.

    Thanks

    Any other suggestions?

Do you think it’s a memory thing, I’ve tried freeing up some space on the hard drive but that hasn’t helped. Do you think i need to redo the edits now that i’ve freed up some space.

This playback stuttering problem is also happening to me too all of the sudden especially on transitions. The only way I’ve kinda gotten through them is to keep switching back and forth between “Use playback settings” and “Full Quality” in the dropdown menu from the RT button on your timeline. If you keep switching back and forth between the two modes it eventually stops stuttering. This is not really a good solution to the problem but its the only thing I can do till I figure out the real issue.
