I am trying to make a golf ball fly through the air towards the “camera” and when it gets full screen I want it to look like it broke through the TV. I’ve got a black solid that has a add transfer mode on it that is the object being shattered. The problem is it doesn’t look like glass being shattered. Any ideas on how to pull this off better? I have AE 6.5 Pro
    Thanks for the help.

What would it look like in real life?

After it shatters, how would you tell it is glass? You’d see reflections in it, and highlights on the edges.

But here’s the problem: AE doesn’t do raytraced reflections. So why don’t you try shattering a movie that starts black, then shows an image of a room or fractal noise or whatever. Time it so that image is shown at the moment of shatter or just afterward. You can still use add or screen mode.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Artbeats has clips of glass shattering that works very well for this sort of thing. The one I use is part of the Gun Stock collection.
