I am having a serious problem with my P2 Store. It is getting extremely slow in downloading to my Mac Powerbook G4. It did not previously have this problem but now as it goes through the partitions it grows increasingly slow. The first card downloads at about 25 minutes but by the time it gets to the 4th it is taking between 1 and 1/2 hours and 3 hours. This is causing me or someone else to spend shooting nights sitting and waiting for the download. If I were paying somebody for this it would be extremely expensive so I might as well be shooting on a larger format camera. Any advice on what might be going on would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank, AB

Try the P2Genie (www.p2genie.com). ONly $33 and it makes this transfer happen fast, and automates the process as well.

If it’s taking any more than 4 minutes to offload a 4-gig partition, you’ve got a problem somewhere in your system.

Hi Barry, I am using 8 gig cards and it has alwayst taken way longer than eight minutes. (This is downloading the P2 store to a hard drive.) It seems to have no problem ingesting cards. Assuming I do have a problem how would you address it. Thanks. AB

Copy the lastclip.txt file and then copy the contents folder.

Try P2 genie like Shane says. (that way even if it does take all night, it’ll do it all in one go).

Also, OS 10.4.9 is supposed to make P2 transfer times faster, but I have no experience with that as I am still running 10.4.8.

MacOS update 10.4.9 addresses this issue

Might want to repair permissions before and after installing the downloaded combo updater.

[FABlack] “Assuming I do have a problem how would you address it.”

You definitely have a problem, but I don’t know how to address it; I’m not a Mac user. On the PC, a direct card copy takes about 5:15 for an 8GB card. From the P2 Store it’s slower, but no more than 8 minutes. You should check to make sure that you’re not connecting to a USB1 port, or that there aren’t any USB1 devices in the chain…

There are no USB 1 ports or devices in the chain. This P2 store is having this problem with multiple computers. Maybe it is time to contact panasonic. I know that Genie will speed it up but that is not addressing the problem. The P2 store should not take all night to download and what if I don’t have all night.

Okay, have you tried the other two suggestions?

Thanks David, I sill download the new version and see if that helps. Sorry for my ingorance but what does that mean, repair the permissions?

    Hi,

So you are saying that it used to be faster and now it is getting slower? In general that wouldn’t be a Panasonic problem as there is no software other than that which drives the drive and it is in the firmware. I would follow the suggestions that folks have made here as there is something in the system that is “remembering” something and is causing the delay.

Are you using the P2 Store to reformat the cards? I assume yes but always check.

    Keep us posted.

    Best,

    Jan
