I want to use photo images in a 3D evironment. The photos should look like they are cardboard cut outs that have some “thickness”. How can I add this depth to a photo?

Try Invigorator Pro. Our copy of After Effects had that bundled in. It can extrude objects, etc.

Build some cubes with 3D Assistants lite (comes with AE 6.5 which Invigorator no longer does) and make one of the faces your image.

apply the shatter effect to the layer, but adjust the depth/radius/strength parameters so that the layer doesn’t explode. then adjust the extrude thickness parameter to your liking. shatter can also recognize the movements and perspective of a 3d camera layer in the same comp.

Great suggestions folks (all of them), thank you. I will try these tonight. I love how many ways there are of accomplishing the same thing.

i have tired using invogorator for this but cant get a photo to sit correctly on the 3d shape, when it moves bits of the 3d shape bleed out adding a border

the effect im after is to have a photo sit on a box and then animate the camera to look around it

    any ideas?
