GIFS in FCP??
Posted by Sky Dylan-robbins on July 29, 2013 at 2:45 amHey all,
I’ve got a ton of GIFS I’d like to use in final cut (on FCPX, currently). Any advice re: not having to recreate the GIFS, frame by frame, in my timeline? Thnx in advance!

July 29, 2013 at 9:10 amAs Michael said on your previous post, FC can not manage GIFs. The fact that QT or FC can open some unsupported formats doesn’t means that FC can edit them.
As Michael suggested, open the GIF with QT or MPGStreamclip and export it on a codec supported by Fc.

July 29, 2013 at 2:11 pmDo you mean animated gifs?
For that, the quick and dirty way is to use the built-in screen recorder on your mac to capture the animation and save off to .mov format.

June 24, 2015 at 5:21 pmHi,
I created a tutorial explaining how I do this. It runs through how to capture a gif and set it up for editing in Final Cut Pro X.

The video is pretty quick and to the point. Hope you find it helpful.
Thanks,
Ben
