June 23, 2017 at 6:18 pmSo I read another older thread on here and found a “work around” well, at least so that it doesn’t annoy me, I am talking about that pulsing/ flickering in the darks. Basically I just added some noise reduction in camera in the custom picture settings. Still have a satisfying image and no pulsing. Thanks to https://my.creativecow.net/Steven-Anderson

June 27, 2017 at 11:49 pmI ended up buying a GH5. I think the higher bit rate will get me through most of the jobs. And I love the slow motion. For those clients who really need to see a “big camera,” that type of project will just have to wait until I have funds to buy a C200 (In reality, I think the GH5 is enough for that, if they only allow me to use it). I think the C200’s ability to shoot raw will be very useful.
The only serious problem I have now with the GH5 is the menus. Very confusing. I have to search the internet every time I look for something. In the Canon Cinema cameras, almost every function has a dedicated button. Better for run and gun situations.

June 28, 2017 at 5:22 amCongratulations on your purchase, after you get use to it the menu system, it won’t be a problem. I too will buy a GH5 eventually. But for me the c100 is the right tool for me. But for sure I want to grab a gh5 so I can offer 4k, slow mo, higher bitrate for color correction or grading, for more serious projects. Isn’t this field fun? I keep learning something new and getting better, I’m really enjoy this Cinema/videography world!

August 21, 2017 at 1:03 pmI’ve had a c100 Mkii for over 2 years and its definitely earned its keep for me.
However, having recently acquired a GH5 with metabones speedooster, it makes me want to throw the C100 Mkii on the rubbish tip. Not literally of course, bit there is not one single usage situation where I wouldn’t see an advantage to the GH5.
1) Don’t get too sold on the dual pixel AF on the C100 Mkii. Its really NOT all that. It only works in tiny central portion of the frame, its not as good as the version on Canon’s DSLR’s (like the 80D & 5D Mark iv), and what’s worse is Canon deliberately made the face detection available ONLY on 3 slow STM zoom lenses. So its useless in low light.
2) The GH5 with speed booster is genuinely cleaner than the C100 Mkii up to 3200 iso.
3) The GH5 fits better on my gimble.
4) The GH5 waveform monitor shows in the viewfinder.. the C100’s waveform only appears on the LCD.
5) The GH5 has in body stabilisation. So all those fast prime lenses work better on a shoulder rig.
6) The GH5’s colour science is damn near as good as Canon’s, and I mean it!
7) The GH5’s image quality blows the C100 Mkii out of the water when recording in 4K.
8) In 1080p, the C100’s image is comparable.. maybe even a hair nicer… but its limited to 60fps. The GH5 goes up to 180fps, and its usable. Now I have 4K, I wouldn’t ever record in 1080 unless it was for high frame rate stuff… so the GH5 wins again.
9) The GH5 on a shoulder rig isn’t too high like the C100 MkII.
10) Worried about audio… fair point. But the XLR show mount adapter gets you there on the GH5 for an extra £350.
I’d have a C200 in heartbeat, but at nearly £8,000 its completely irrelevant in the presence of a £2300 GH5 + speed booster.
Now don’t get me wrong, the C100 Mkii is nice to work with and I know exactly how to expose stuff nicely on it to get the best from the sensor. But the GH5 is genuinely pretty nice to work with too.
Panasonic have done an amazing job with the GH5. If it comes to a choice in 2017 between the C100 MkII and the GH5… its a no brainer…. get the GH5.

October 8, 2017 at 8:34 pmI see some of your points. I feel like I am missing out with the slow motion ability, I want to make some nice looking music videos and other kind of creative videos and I feel that the slow motion would really help make the vision come to life. Is it the only way, no but it sure would help.
What would you do if you had say a c100 mk 1 and could pretty much sell it and get the exact amount to buy a gh5 would you sell?
sigh
giving up the XLR and ND filters. And form factor stings. I don’t know what to do. earlier I said oh I could possibly get both, but it doesn’t lok like that is the case. as I dropped a ton of money on upgrading my editing work station

December 3, 2017 at 8:15 amhey everyone.
so I am still in this situation my C100 is on ebay and about to end tomorrow. IF i don’t close to what I want I will probably back out but if I do get what I want, I can get one step closer to the gh5. Here is the issue and I know it may not be a deal breaker for many but man.. Using the c100 I barley see any Moire . so when I did some test shooting with the GH5, especially in the slow mo it was horrible! so much noticeable moire, it actually has me having 2nd thoughts about this whole GH5 thing. I looked at so many GH5 videos and unless you are shooting up close and very picky, all wide shots of buildings or fences tree bark all have some major moire, it’s disgusting, i can’t unsee it..
how are you all dealing with it? are you not turned off? I know I gain a lot but i lose a lot too sigh this is frustrating.
@https://my.creativecow.net/Julian-Croot do you have this issue at all with Moire? I re read your post to help me lean over to buy the GH5 but again when i look at footage the Moire is strong turn off. I rarely see this on my c100…

December 3, 2017 at 5:51 pmHmm, its true the GH5 starts to Moire a cheeky bit in high frame rate, but at 4K 50/60p I think its clean…maybe I’ve not looked hard enough for it.
I can actually see moire in the C100 Mark II footage if I shoot roof lines and things like that. It is mostly well controlled, but I think you still have to be careful with it.
For me, the only real complaint I have with the GH5 (excluding the autofocus), is how it sometimes exaggerates the colour orange. But I’m nitpicking as skin tones look good and it cuts really well with the Canon C series.
The sad part is there’s a reason to own all these cameras. I recently obtained a C200 in the hope of getting what I like from both the C100 Mark II and GH5. But I still find myself reaching for the GH5 when I need to be more discrete…and the IBIS is a huge advantage.

December 3, 2017 at 6:19 pmyeah, well at least you are in a position to have that option ☺ at the moment I had to have either or and guess what? my c100 didn’t do well on ebay and i decided not to sell it it went for 1800 CAD ($1400 U.S) i did my research and cameras just like mine were trending at $2300-$2400 CAD ($1800-1900) US C100 with DAF 228 hours, extra battery 64 SD card. wasn’t good enough so i backed out and I am going to have to keep it and just make more money like i said in the beginning and buy a gh5 and add it to my Gear. And yes I can agree with you for some situations the c100 stands out too much ☹ I use to be like yeahhh big ass camera look at me! now I am aware and sometimes feel a bit “uncomfortable” of course it depends on the situation. ok folks well ina few months hopefully I bump this thread with good news and own a GH5 lol aslo have you heard about “GH5s” lol

December 5, 2017 at 12:56 amOk everyone,
so.. The craziest thing happened. After being all bummed out about the results of my Ebay auction. I went to a local camera shop to look at lens for the c100 again cause I was certain I was “stuck using the c100” for a while. As I am looking at some lens, some guy asks me how I like my Canon c100 ( I had it out trying out lens) I say its great but I just feel I need to upgrade to a GH5 to challenge myself. I actually had it on Ebay but it didn’t work out for me. He said oh the one that went for $1800? I said no way what? yeah that one i didn’t sell it tho i said. He said I bid on it and was out bid last second. I said yeah $1800 is too low especially after ebay takes their cut.
I told him I even had it on Kijiji for 2k for a day. I was shocked no one messaged me. He said oh I didn’t see it but I will give you 2k for it. I was thinking. uhh damn for real. ok uhh let me just sleep on it. We exchanged emails and later that night I was doing some thinking about the whole situation. I decided that the universe put me and this guy in line for a reason, seriously that is nuts how the guy who bid on my camera and myself were in the same location the same day a few hours after the auction. So I took it as a sign and let him know I was down to sell it. Fast forward to today. We met again at the local camera shop (Shout out to Downtown Camera here in Toronto) He picked up the c100 from me and I picked up the GH5! man it’s crazy how the world works! and if by chance you are reading this dood. LOL whats up! So this is how my chapter ended with the C100, Just thought I would share with you all. Thank for reading.
