GH5 10 bit FHD recording problem!!!
Posted by Kevin Rag on September 20, 2017 at 9:49 amHey guys,
Bought a GH5 last week. Been testing it. Haven shot 4K yet. There’s a strange problem. I can shoot MP4 snd avchd files with no problems at all. 8 bit .mov is fine too. But when I shoot 10 bit mov, I see just glitches on screen (no pictures). I tried with EditReady, mpegstreamclip, at player, fcpx and PrPro CC. No luck. But plays fine in the camera.
Firmware is 1.1. What do I do now? Will try to flash the firmware again later today.K

September 20, 2017 at 11:07 amDo you have the latest version of Premiere Pro, which included an update to handle 10 bit files? I don’t know about those other programs you mentioned. I do remember reading about a user of another program (FCP?) complaining about having to transcode in order to work with 10 bit files.

September 20, 2017 at 1:12 pmThanks for the reply Duke. The thing is, EditReady is one of the best and fastest in transcoding. It doesn’t even see the files from my GH5. Neither does MPEGSTREAMCLIP:(
Its only the 10 bit .mov files.K

September 20, 2017 at 2:00 pmHi Kevin
Unfortunately the EditReady V1 of the software doesn’t work with the 10bit GH5 files. You will need to upgrade to the newest version. The new 2.0 version transcodes those pesky GH5 10bit files with ease so you can get to editing.

September 21, 2017 at 2:33 amI knew it had something to do with software incompatibility with 10 bit. Did you upgrade Premiere Pro as well? It’s free and it also updates Media Encoder to handle 10 bit, no transcoding necessary.

September 21, 2017 at 11:40 amWas it updated before you first posted this question? You said in the first post it was also giving you problems with 10 bit.

September 22, 2017 at 3:10 amNo. Had an update pending. Updated. PrPro still doesn’t see it. Seeing the same glitches. Audio is fine though. Am about to download EditReady v2 trial. Will update soon.
