    Peter,

Thanks for the updates on this! Where can one order a GH2 “body only”? B&H has a few options with lenses (which are rather slow).

[Jason Jenkins] “… Where can one order a GH2 “body only”? …”

Hi Jason: To the best of my knowledge, no authorized Panasonic dealers in the US are currently offering to sell (or order) a GH2 as a body-only configuration. This might change, but my guess is it’ll be a long while before it does, if ever.

I have a GH2 with the relatively inexpensive Lumix 14-42mm zoom lens on pre-order/wish-list at Amazon, Adorama, & B&H. Whoever ships first “wins”. 😉

I already own a hacked GH1 & 3 lenses (Lumix 14-140mm zoom, 20mm f1.7 pancake, & old Nikon 55mm f1.2 + adapter), which I’ll keep as a spare/backup camera. I’ll make some use of the 14-42 zoom; it’s not a stellar performer for stills, but for video it’ll be OK. Note the 14-42 lens has a plastic lens mount ring which probably isn’t as durable as a metal mount ring (such as on the 14-140 zoom).

The GH2 is available in Japan as a body-only config, but those cams have Japanese-only on-screen menus which can’t be switched to English (and there’s no guarantee there’ll ever be a hack to change that). FYI: Non-US sourced Panasonic cams do not include a Panasonic US warranty.

Thanks for the info, Peter. For some reason I was under the impression that the GH2 would be available sans lens. Are there other manufacturer’s lenses that would autofocus on the GH2? I do have some old manual Nikkors that would be fun to use, but it would be nice to have a fast zoom that would autofocus, as well.

Thanks, Peter. I’m thinking that I’m going to buy the GH2 with the 14-140mm lens –that way when I pick up the AF100, I’ll have a decent zoom to use there. The GH2 and the AF100 look to be great companions!

    I agree on every point.

As we know, the Lumix 14-140mm zoom isn’t fast, but it’s well worth its several hundred dollar US price when you consider it complete set of features & performance.

Myself, I look forward to renting an AF100 when an opportunity/project presents itself.

Looks like the GH2 is just starting to trickle-in to dealers outside Japan, although in very small numbers. I suspect the GH2 (& AF100) won’t be readily available until January.

    Enjoy your new toys/tools!
