    Hello team.
I am now ready to start shooting with my GH1.
I was wondering if it’s possible to connect an external 7″ monitor to it (I am using one currently with my Sony VX2100, an RCA cable gets me the signal).
I tried it, using the cable supplied, but I get a “NO SIGNAL” message.
I am only able to display images the reside in the card as a slide show.
Is there a way to hack the connection or is Panasonic going to provide with some firmware to correct this lack of connection?
    I am all ears!

    Thank you very much!

The GH1 does not support live video out when the camera is record mode, period.

The camera’s HDMI video output is strictly a playback-only feature, for viewing previously recorded material. Likewise, the composite output can be used to view playback.

There is a “undocumented” trick to get composite video out while setting up a shot, but not while recording, described here:

Hopefully some future version of the GH1 might support live video out during recording, but the current model does not do this, regrets.

I’m not aware of any “hack” of any type (hardware or software) for the GH1.

    Thank you Peter.
I guess that I will have to wait and pray for Panasonic to take care themselves of the hacking and produce an upgrade to help us monitor out taping.
Although is not completely necessary, it would be great to have.
    Thank you

    You’re welcome, Alex.

The GH1 is a really nice cam, even if it’s missing a few features.

If you haven’t already seen it, Barry Green has written a very fair & detailed article comparing the video capabilities of the GH1 vs. the 7D:

    Enjoy your GH1!

I truly hope that Panasonic lives to it’s motto:
    IDEAS FOR LIFE…
    And keep upgrading.
This is my first HD camera and I am learning that the missing features are easy to overlook given the clarity and quality of the footage.
Thank you for the article, I will hope that if you hear any news, keep me informed, I will do the same, you know, the cyberspace is pretty broad and it’s hard to cover it all without help.
    Greetings!

    Alexander
