  • Getting the same high quality as when i’m watching my video being captured

    Hey guys,

this is my first post on this forum!
Anyway I recorded my video on a mini DV Camcorder using a mini DV tape. When watching the video from the Camcorder’s screen, the quality looks great!.. which is expected! When i recorded everything, I connected the camcorder up to my computer via Firewire. I then captured all the footage. When capturing all of the footage, the quality of it all looked great and just the same as how it looked on the camcorder. When everything had finally been captured, I placed clips into the timeline and played them to find the quality of them quite blurry. I adjusted some of the video settings – changed to widescreen etc.. and the quality did get better. But it’s still not as crisp and clear as when the video was being captured. As I am quite new to video I am probably missing some things out, like specific settings to get my video the best quality!

I also understand that render settings affect the quality of your video too, so if anyone wants to give me any information on render settings too, that would be much appreciated!

    Sorry for the long post!
    Matt.

I would not worry too much about the preview quality. Vegas sometimes trades off quality for playback speed. You can set the preview quality to Best Full. There is also a new option in Vegas Pro 9.0 to reduce qualoity to improve frame rate that you can turn off if you’d like (right-click the preview window to get to it). This will not affect the render quality.

Also make sure that your project settings are correct and compliment the footage you are working with. Always understand your source material by knowing what the camera settings were and then replicate those settings in the edit.
