    Hello,

I have done some very amateur digital editing in Windows Movie Maker and imovie and I am seriously saving money to get myself a mac and FCS 2. I plan to use the video tutorials and books and later during the year go to the Apple training center so I would really appreciate if some one can suggest me what to look for in a macbook pro or imac before buying so that I can make the best selection based on cost and productivity.

    Thanks,

    Luis

I would recommend a MacBook Pro over an iMac. The big reason for this is that the MBP will have an express slot that you can use with a esata card and esata drives, thus keeping your media drives on a completely separate buss from your camera/deck.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!

If you are serious about making a living at it, I would go for a Mac Pro. Video is so demanding that you need as much power as possible and a Mac Pro isn’t much more than a Mac Book Pro, but it is much more powerful. 8 cores vs. 2. Of course if you travel a lot or edit on the road then you need a laptop. The Mac Pro also offers more expandability. Down the road if you want to get a card for it from AJA or Blackmagic you can. You can add hard drives to it etc.
