  • Getting the perfect installation

Posted by Rafael Amador on November 17, 2007 at 12:57 pm

Yesterday afternoon I picked a brand new Seagate Barracuda 250Gb. and I started to install System and applications.
First Tiger (lets the Leopard drink some milk), them QT, Applications support, FCS2, Photoshop, AE, and I ended up with the BlackMagic drivers. All updated.
The installation was easy (boring) because I had everything ready. No mistakes keeping the order. After each installation I repaired permissions.
Well, I thought was a perfect installation.
This morning I opened FC: The Easy Setup window didn’t display the setups list. I could only open the default NTSC DV.
Close FC and run DiskWarrior. When I sow the graphic of the directory I got shocked. An incredible mess: 32% of the items out of order. Like 150,000 items out of some 470.000.
This in a system that I just installed and haven’t works with the application at all (just the necessary for the installations).
I rebuild the directories with DiskWarrior: Open FC, and..the list of the Easy Setups opens flawlessly.
I comment this because we are in “Installation times”. My five hours life System was made a mess after a perfect (?) installation. How would have be after a couple of weeks working?
You can not get a rock-solid FCS system if you don’t have a rock-solid MacOX system. And you can not achieve that without an application that clean your directories.
The tools in MacOX are not enough. DiskWarrior or TechTools are indispensable software when you have a Mac.
So, if you think that the health of your Mac affects in any way to your own health, spend a bit of money in one of those application. Better than in paracetamol.

Don, Paracetamol (Panadol?) is a medicine for the headache:-)
BTW, has you got already your PMW-EX1? I read all your pots in the CineAlta forum. You keep me up dated. I look forward to buy one in the next few months. Camera, batteries, Flash memory, HDs..uff the pocket.
    Cheers,

[rafalaos] “BTW, has you got already your PMW-EX1?”

Not yet, but I had my first look at one yesterday at a local trade show. Now it’s just a question of waiting for my price quote from the dealer I talked to. I’ll probably place my order this week coming up.

    1 PMW EX1
    2 BP U60 Batteries
2 16 GB SxS Pro memory cards
    1 .08 wide angle adapter.

You’ve got to see to believe the picture quality of this camera, Raf. No picture noise at all in the blacks even with +9 gain.

I hope I will be able to have a look to one by this Christmas when I’ll go to the civilization.
I don’t want to rush to buy one. But sure I’ll do it:-)
