[Steven Ludlow] ” I mean…if money’s no object, will 32GB of RAM be substantially faster than 16GB? “

Probably not substantially faster, no. I have 16GB which equals 2Gigs per core. Seems to be a pretty decent number. Check over on barefeats.com as they have some write-ups about Compressor and “virtual clusters”.

I’ve never had any glitch frames in my exports when using a virtual cluster.

One thing you’ll need to start doing is to export a QT Movie (doesn’t need to be self-contained) and bring that into Compressor rather than sending to Compressor within FCP. This has to do with Compressor looking for multiple licenses of FCP within the Virtual Cluster (which don’t exist).

on a single system its ok,
when you render over the network with multiple systems there have been lots of reports of random glitch frames at times doing it that way. Maybe Apple finally fixed it?
