Getting rid of just enough white
I have a pretty odd question because it pertains to animation. Basically, I’m using Final Cut Pro to help me animate a short movie, but I’ve ran into a weird issue. First, it’s important to know that the entire movie is black and white, and that I’ve drawn every frame by hand with a black pen on white paper. Now, when I want to have two characters interact on the screen, I simply use composite mode- multiply to get rid of the white background behind them, and then place a matte of the color white on the timeline beneath those two sequences. Now they can both me on the screen at the same time, but they can never overlap. This is an issue because I want to start drawing better backgrounds, but they will be visible through the characters
My question is basically this. Is there a way to get rid of the white background without getting rid of the white inside of a black frame that I’ve drawn? Thank you very much

The only way you’ll be able to accomplish that is to bring your scans into an image editing program, add an alpha channel, select your white background and delete it. This would essentially make your background transparent, while the white within your characters is retained.
