  • Getting name order WITHOUT Bridge?

Posted by Jimmy Brunger on March 8, 2007 at 9:22 am

    Hi all,

This has been annoying me for a while…ever since I upgraded to Production Suite Premium all my Adobe apps now throw up files and folders in a totally random order when going to the ‘open’ window, even if I’ve re-ordered that particular folder by name 2 minutes since. It makes finding stuff quickly a pain because every folder I go into I have to re-order by right-clicking..(I’m on a PC btw)

Now I’m almost certain Adobe have done this to force you to use Bridge…I hate bridge, it’s too slow and doesn’t fit the way I work.

Is there any way around this?

    Thanks,
    Jim.

Actually you are blaming the wrong guys and have done this yourself. File dialogs are a mere extension of the Windows Explorer and inherit all its settings – including folder views. So at some point you have set your folder views to something else than alphabetical and saved the folder view. Change it back and henceforth your dialogs will behave again in the way you need it.

Thanks for the reply Mylenium, but I have not changed anything to my knowledge..outside of the Adobe apps (and in any other app – word, combustion, etc) my folder structures behave fine. It’s only when opening stuff/saving stuf from WITHIN adobe apps where the problem arises.

It was fine in the CS1 apps and AE 5.5..which just makes me think it’s something written into the latest Adobe software to make you use Bridge?

Has no one else had this problem?

I apologise, you were totally correct Mylenium! I had must have globally changed them all somehow months ago, but not the ones I use most often hence the confusion. All sorted now!
