  • getting green frames on good footage

Posted by Joao carlos Schwalbach on March 16, 2011 at 12:59 pm

    Hi,

I am editing this doc and from time to time I get some green frames in some of the clips. Most of the time, if I close and re-launch Vegas the green frames disappear but same times they don’t.

Is this a known issue with Vegas Pro 10?

Footage is from EX sony cams.

    Thanks in advance

    kind regards

No, that is not a known issue with Vegas. Maybe you have
a codec issue on your system. What format are these files?

    Steve,

This were .mov files from mac, converted to .mxf with Convergent Design’s FileConverter.
Everything is fine when I import the clips into Vegas, but when I start editing, moving clips on trimming I get these ramdom green frames.

Where can I look to find what’s wrong?

    kind regards

If possible, Try converting those files instead to
a quicktime format (eg:Photo-jpeg)….And test if
you still see hints of green popping up.

Steve, is there a way to batch convert these files to a quicktime format?

Will I have to edit everything from scratch? (this would be hell, its 3 hours of footages X 3 cameras.

    thanks

Have you tried just editing the .mov files?

[Joao Carlos Schwalbach] “This were .mov files from mac, converted to .mxf with Convergent Design’s FileConverter.”

That was a critical piece of information that you left out when you said, “Footage is from EX sony cams.” I thought you were working with native MXF files.

[Joao Carlos Schwalbach] “Where can I look to find what’s wrong?”

I would start looking at the Mac. Your trouble started when the Mac couldn’t handle the native XDCAM footage and munged it into someything unusable on a PC.

I would use the original XDCAM footage directly from the Sony EX camera captured with Vegas Pro and take the Mac out of the equation and all of your problems will disappear.

Vegas can’t read the .mov files because they were captured on a mac.

    Hi John,

Next time I will do that. In this particular case it is too late: the original footage is gone…deleted a long time ago. The footage was done by another company and they were suposed to do the editing as well but then things changed.

Is there a work around to fix this?
Could I export it to another format and get put it back into vegas without loosing the edit I have done so far?

I haven’t tried to export it to see if the green frames are still there…will check that out tomorrow and post back.

    thanks once again

    regards
